LAST SUPPER is a collaborative work by Allen-Golder Carpenter and Logan Wayne White, curated by Joe Horner for their duo show in Detroit, MI. White presents a monolithic three-dimensional canvas for the vast photo archive of Carpenter. The piece is comprised of 6 chairs, 2 end chairs and tabletop with 4 oversized legs, which in turn creates side tables. When the chairs are fully pushed in they align in rhythm with the legs forming a large block. Allen-Golder's images weave together contemporary culture with photographs from earlier eras, including material from The Great Migration, a time when Black Americans left the South in pursuit of opportunity in cities like Detroit. The work draws from attention to the evolution of Black music traditions and their deep connection with American identity and ritual.
